From the Honorary Consul, Tad Taube

It is with a grieving heart that I share with you the tragic news of the death of President Lech Kaczyński and First Lady Maria Kaczyńska, and over 85 other political leaders from the Republic of Poland, who were killed yesterday in an airplane crash en route to a commemoration of the Polish army officers who were murdered by the Soviet Union at the onset of World War II. This is a heartbreaking loss of a friend of our Consulates and Foundations and, more broadly, the loss of a much-needed world leader warm to the U.S. and Israel.

On behalf of my Honorary Consulate, and the Taube and Koret Foundations, I wish to express our deepest condolences to the families of all who perished on this flight and to the people of Poland. Words cannot properly describe the loss of such great leaders. I will be speaking with my colleague, Honorary Consul Christopher Kerosky, and we will keep you informed of local memorial events, as well as news from the Polish government and media.

Tad Taube
Honorary Consul for the Republic of Poland in the San Francisco Bay Area
